Something strange happened as the 2024 photography season came to a close. So foreign to me, I still don't know what to make of it. It was peace. A persistent peace, in a way I haven't felt in a long time.
I love Christmas and have been hosting Christmas portrait sessions for several years now. While I wouldn't miss them, they can be taxing; the amount of work behind the scenes, the financial investment, editing time and also tending to our family holiday activities. Add in homeschool and family meals, wrapping gifts at night, editing; you get the picture.
This year something was so different, I really don't have words to describe it. In addition to the holiday sessions, I also had two weddings, one of them on December 23rd. I knew taking on the weddings would be nice and break from the Christmas sessions but I was prepared for a bit of stress. I was wrong. Everything and every aspect of my schedule this year worked out better than I could have asked for. I kept wondering what I may be missing. Something felt unusual. What was this I was feeling? It was complete and total, all embracing peace.
Did things come up during the season? Yes. This is real life, but as soon as something came up, just as quickly, something else swooped in and the peace never left. Everything fell into place beautifully.
Gabby and Chris held their wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek. It was an absolute gift to work at this venue. From start to finish, they created a beautiful experience. I cannot recommend this venue enough and I hope for the opportunity to work there again in every season.
It was a cool winter day but they made it so warm. From the moment the guests arrived, they had a basket with cozy blankets and a table with made from scratch hot cocoa and coffee with all of the accompaniments. It was welcoming, the sun was shining. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, expectant and peaceful. It's so hard to describe something intangible and beautiful. I wish I could, but all I could do was whisper, Thank you God.
I met Gabby several years ago when I photographed her Senior portraits. She has a beautiful soul and wonderful sense of humor. She's fun to be around and genuinely caring for others around her. When she asked me to photograph her engagement session, for a moment I had that protective feeling, wondering about the gentleman I would meet. Who was it that captured Gabby's heart?
Then I met Chris. Immediately, I knew he was a sweetheart and she had found her perfect match. Here are some portraits from their perfect day!
Thank you to Chris, Gabby and their families who allowed us to be a part of this special day.
